CHRIS CALVEY
HEADTEACHER
Chris joined Great Walstead in 2017 after ten years as Head of Ardingly College Prep. Passionate about ensuring every child feels known, challenged and inspired, he champions curiosity, kindness and adventure as the heartbeat of Great Walstead life.
What Chris loves most about Great Walstead
For Chris, Great Walstead is a place where children are genuinely excited to learn and eager to explore the world around them. He loves the sense of curiosity and openness that runs through the school, alongside a community where kindness, respect and empathy shine every day.
A Head who never stops learning
A great advocate for trying new things, Chris is always exploring fresh ideas and hobbies. Most recently he has begun building a bonsai collection, proving that patience really is a virtue. His enthusiasm for curiosity and lifelong learning is something he hopes every pupil carries with them.
Fun fact
Chris and his brother once insisted they would never be teachers, growing up in a teaching family, they were determined to try something else. But passion won. Both returned to schools and are now headmasters. Never say never, especially when it turns out to be your perfect fit.
What motivates Chris as a Head
Chris thrives on supporting pupils and staff to be the very best they can be. No two days are the same and he loves that. Helping others grow in confidence, discover passions and enjoy school life is, for him, the most rewarding part of the job.
Advice to pupils
Be curious, be kind and be ready to grab opportunities when they come your way.
