Walstead Unwrapped

Enthusiasm for the podcast was high from the get-go, with staff, pupils and parents alike instantly voicing their support! The idea was to provide an opportunity for pupils to share their perspectives, explore big questions and create something meaningful the whole community could engage with.

The decision was made to begin the podcast with the Year 8 Prefects as we developed the podcast’s identity and focus. The team have thrown themselves into the opportunity, bringing their enthusiasm and unique perspectives to Walstead Unwrapped.

Prefects formed a clear vision for the podcast’s identity. After briefing the marketing team, they saw their ideas realised in a distinctive logo, with a jingle following shortly after.

Topics are chosen based on the topics that are hot in school at the time. From big questions like what makes a good teacher to why sport and the arts are important, each topic unleashes their enthusiasm and curiosity and provides a wonderful opportunity for thoughtful and constructive discussion.

Now the fun really begins. With everyone contributing, the Prefects support one another to communicate confidently, listen carefully and keep conversations engaging.

Episodes are then reviewed and edited by the marketing team, improving clarity and flow while ensuring the final programme represents the original idea behind the topic. The podcast team reviews the final output before it goes live. 

The release of every episode is a proud milestone, marking the journey from initial idea to a finished production shared with listeners.

We hope to expand the podcast to invite more voices to participate, making for an even more vibrant, inclusive representation of life here at Great Walstead.
