A place to grow
Discover our unique private school in West Sussex. Children arrive in Pre-School as mini explorers and develop steadily into more independent adventurers. Finally, they step out in Year 8 as confident and curious young people.
The stages of our school
Children see magic because they look for it. At Great Walstead, we want them to keep looking. That’s why we encourage learning through play, exploration and self-discovery.
Pre-School & Reception, ages 2 ½ to 6
Where the journey begins. Led by their class teacher, each child is carefully nurtured and starts exploring the magic of learning.
Pre-Prep, ages 6 to 7
In Year 1 and 2 … our children are encouraged to pursue their curiosity and creativity in a safe and secure space. Subjects begin to be broken down – with specialist lessons in music, PE, swimming and Forest School.
Juniors, ages 7 to 9
In Year 3 and 4… we see confidence growing fast, both socially and academically. The emphasis is still on creating a fun yet supportive learning environment with just the right challenges to reach for.
Middles, ages 9 to 11
In Year 5 and 6… the focus shifts towards subject-specialist learning. There are plenty of opportunities for students to take on more responsibility and it’s a joy to watch them on this voyage of self-discovery.
Seniors, ages 11 to 13
In Year 7 and 8… the last leg of the journey begins. All learning is now by subject as children prepare for their next chapter. Our infamous ‘Q-Day’ event – an action-packed four days filled with wild camping, challenges and fun – is a fitting finale to this wonderful adventure.
Adventures in Pre-School
Mixing up paint and jumping in puddles, exploring our grounds and story time cuddles. Our Pre-School is all about learning through play and playing while we learn.
