Meeting Individual Needs

Every child learns differently, and at Great Walstead we celebrate those differences. Our Learning Enhancement Department provides thoughtful, personalised support that helps each pupil build confidence, develop skills and thrive within the classroom and beyond.

Right in the centre of the school, overlooking the Atrium and beautiful grounds, you will find our kind, purposeful and nurturing Learning Enhancement Department. It is a welcoming space where support, encouragement and progress go hand in hand.

Our team of five qualified specialists work closely with teachers across the School to identify and support individual learning needs. The focus is on strengthening literacy and numeracy skills, boosting confidence and developing strategies for independent learning.

Most children receive support within their regular classroom setting from teachers who understand their individual learning styles. Where helpful, additional small group or one-to-one sessions are offered to reinforce key skills and address specific challenges. Some of these interventions are available as an enhancement at an additional cost.

The department also provides assessments, guidance and referrals to external specialists where needed, such as educational psychologists, occupational therapists or speech and language therapists. Parents are supported throughout the process, ensuring communication and understanding remain strong.

At Great Walstead, our approach is collaborative. Teachers, parents and pupils work together to build on strengths, overcome challenges and celebrate every success. The result is confident learners who feel supported, capable and proud of their progress.
