Making us proud

Over the last five years an average of 35% of our Year 8 leavers have obtained a scholarship to their senior school. These include academic, sporting, music, drama and art as individual scholarships but also a number gaining ‘all-rounder’ awards where they have shown real talent in more than one area.

Our most recent leavers performed brilliantly and were offered 16 scholarships including four academic scholarships to top performing senior schools in Sussex. It’s a testament to the hard work of the pupils themselves as well as the teachers and parents who have supported them so strongly throughout.

All prospective scholars are supported in their studies. Talents are nurtured through additional after school clubs and activities, which adds strength to each pupil’s application. In addition, children showing potential in Year 6 to achieve a scholarship at 13+ are able to apply for an internal scholarship at 11+ in academic, drama, music, sport and art.

As well as internal Great Walstead scholarships, those of our Year 6 students who choose Ardingly College for their senior school are eligible to apply for the Ardingly Family of Schools Scholarships, which are held at Great Walstead in Years 7 and 8 and then at Ardingly College from Year 9.
