Sport
Get out, get involved
We encourage every child to get involved in our extensive selection of extra-curricular activities. Our Mud π philosophy recognises that there’s huge value to take from these experiences.
Sport at Great Walstead
Sport at Great Walstead is varied, challenging and fun for pupils of all abilities. Our Wednesday afternoon games programme includes football, rugby, hockey and cricket for boys and netball, hockey, football and cricket for girls.
Opportunities to practise and compete in swimming, athletics, tennis and cross country are frequent. To provide further variety, the PE programme includes sports such as badminton, basketball, trampolining, gymnastics, street dance and sports leadership. There really is something for everyone.
Our 3 core aims
In the sports department, we have three core aims that guide our approach to teaching and coaching:
- Develop independent and resilient young sportsmen and women who are creative and confident decision makers.
- Provide a variety of team and individual sporting experiences for all pupils.
- Instil pupils with a life-long love of sport and an understanding of physical health and well-being.
These combine to give a sporting experience that captures excellence, inclusivity, and enjoyment for all. Whether it’s competing in a national final, or playing a new sport for the first time, every sporting achievement is valued and recognised.
After school clubs offer additional activities such as sailing, karate, dance, horse riding and golf.
