Sensory play dough is always a great hit with our Nursery children! One of our favourites, 'Gingerbread Play Dough', is beautifully scented and super easy to make!
You will need:
2 cups of plain flour
½ cup salt
3 tablespoons of oil
2 tablespoons of cream of tartar
1 tablespoon of ground ginger
2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon
1 cup of boiling water
5 drops of glycerine for extra shine!
First, mix all of the dry ingredients together in a large bowl. Then, stir in the boiling water and allow it to cool for a few minutes.
Next, knead the mixture into a workable dough on a floured surface. After a few minutes, the dough should be soft – if it’s too sticky, add more flour until it’s just right! Finally, add the glycerine for extra softness and shine!
For some extra fun, children can use the play dough for role play, using shaped cookie cutters to make real gingerbread men and ‘baking’ them in a pretend oven!
Play dough is also perfect for storytelling, with this particular recipe providing a fantastic opportunity to read the story of ‘The Gingerbread Man’.
