Art Graduates

An exciting new initiative for 2020 we have been able to put in place is a partnership with Brighton University School of Art.

Our old art and ceramic facilities are being offered to a group of post graduate art students to help them set up their own business.  They will be based in the old art courtyard where they will set up their own studios. The idea behind this initiative is to offer them a space free of charge in which they can begin their careers as artists, but also provide our children with a very different perspective on art, offering masterclasses in a variety of very different disciplines.

In time, we hope that these masterclasses will also be open to parents and that the art courtyard becomes an exciting and creative area where we can see the artists at work.

Rosie Tweedale

I am a designer maker working with natural materials, clay and wood. My projects have involved collaborating closely with local community organisations to create socially engaged craft objects which tell each of their stories.

I recently completed a ceramics residency in Denmark where I explored the material dualism between clay and wood. I used wood-firing techniques and ash glazes to create ceramic woodgrain vessels that embody aspects of the forest. I am driven by the importance of connecting to our natural environments using local materials, which I will be integrating into my workshops this year.
