Trips

Great Walstead School is ideally situated to enable pupils to benefit from a huge range of outings both local and (for the older children) farther afield. The older children also get the opportunity to experience residential trips.

The programme of outings and trips varies from year to year but typically might involve:

Pre-Prep: a local farm, Paradise Park, the Brighton Sealife Centre, the Bluebell Railway, Wakehurst Place and the Natural History Museum.

Years 3-8: the British Wildlife Centre, Amberley Chalk Pits, Cuckmere Haven, Fishbourne Roman Palace, Lodge Hill Activity Centre, Preston Manor, the British Museum, the Natural History Musuem, the Tate Modern, “Bright Sparks” concerts in London, Newhaven Fort, Lewes Castle.

Year 6 children go on a short residential visit to the Carroty Wood Activity Centre outside Tonbridge which provides a wonderful opportunity for team building and becoming used to staying away from home.

By Year 7 the pupils are ready to go on a week-long visit to Chateau La Baudonniere in Normandy which both develops language and social skills.

Boys in Years 7 and 8 have taken part in biennial cricket tours to South Africa and the senior girls enjoy a netball tour.

Finally, one of the highlights of Year 8 is the Leavers’ Expedition – a week’s stay in the Christian Mountain Centre in Pensarn, Wales which is timed straight after Common Entrance exam week. Under close, professional supervision the children go kayaking, gorge and mountain walking, abseiling and raft building in a beautiful setting in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park. This provides a truly memorable climax to their time at the school.
