Welcome to the Great Walstead School website. We hope that this gives you a flavour of our school and the happy and purposeful atmosphere here.

Who we are
The school is a Christian day and weekly co-educational boarding school with children from 2½- 13 years of age, set in 260+ acres of its own land in the heart of the Sussex countryside, within easy reach of the commuting town of Haywards Heath. Great Walstead exists to provide a first class education for boys and girls in a caring Christian environment so that each individual is inspired to reach his or her full potential in mind, body and spirit.

The headmaster’s invitation
A former parent described the school as a “place of mud and love” and this describes wonderfully two of the things that make Great Walstead School such a special place.

First we have our setting – unrivalled grounds with fields, ponds and woodland. Children here have space to breathe, to appreciate their environment and to take part in a wide range of sports and in activities in our woods that teach them about leadership and self-reliance.

Second – the vital component of love and care. Stemming from our Christian foundation is our belief that each child matters and has a unique personality and gifts. Teachers here go the extra mile to discover and develop talent and to give children confidence in themselves.

Underpinning all this are the firm foundations in learning that we lay down for the children here. Our experienced teachers have high expectations of the children: we encourage them to work hard and to do their best. Our record of academic achievement is impressive.
