Junior School 7-9 years |
Years 3 and 4 are an important transitional stage at Great Walstead. They are therefore a distinct unit within the school overseen by the Head of Juniors, James Skillicorn. Their classrooms all open out of the atrium, a glass-covered area at the centre of the school. Each class has its own class teacher who teaches core subjects, but they have specialist teachers for areas of the curriculum such as geography, science, music, ICT, French, Art and PE. At this point, the children join one of the four houses which compete for house points awarded for work and behaviour. They also compete in sport. Sport plays a wider part in their lives and they have the opportunity to take part in matches and competitions with other schools. |
