Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
The use of ICT is an essential part of every day life for staff and students at Great Walstead. Each classroom has an interactive whiteboard and 1 or 2 computers. There are two large ICT suites and a further smaller one purpose-built for the Pre-Prep age group.
ICT is a vital component of the teaching and learning for students in all sections of the school. As a rule of thumb the national curriculum is followed throughout the Key Stages. The overriding aim is to equip the children with the tools necessary for today’s society.
ICT is taught as a discrete subject, with topics linking to work done in other areas of the curriculum thus enabling children to see how ICT can benefit other areas of study.
A very wide variety of software is used: image manipulation, word processing, spreadsheets, data handling, music making and website construction. Safety issues form an important part of the curriculum.
The main computer room is also open whenever possible for student use at breaks. At this time students are free to develop their skills and explore software of their choice or finish a topic if they so wish but not play computer games!
