Geography
Geography is the study of the earth's landscapes, peoples, places and environments. It is quite simply about the world in which we live.
Why Do We Study Geography at Great Walstead?
Geography helps pupils to make sense of their surroundings and to gain a better appreciation and understanding of the variety of physical and human conditions on the earth's surface. It has direct relevance for pupils of all ages because it relates to many aspects of their own lives and of the environment in which they live. This relevance is especially evident when the study of geography focuses on their immediate surroundings or areas with which they are familiar; when it enquires into important changes taking place, either locally or elsewhere in the world, which may influence their own lives and which in time, they may seek to influence as aware and responsible citizens; and when it examines current social, economic, political and environmental issues.
Geography is by its very nature, a vibrant and ever changing subject. We continually update courses to reflect this and to take on board the interests of the pupils of Great Walstead and current geographical phenomena. We endeavour to use up-to-the- minute case studies for our courses.
